I am a Reader in Statistics and Data Science in the School of Mathematics, University of Edinburgh. My research interests include statistics, machine learning, Bayesian analysis, with a focus on flexible methodology and efficient inference for complex data. Specific interests are nonparametrics, mixtures, clustering, regression, and dimension reduction, along with scalable methods and algorithms for complex, high-dimensional data, and and interdisciplinary applications, particularly in biomedical studies. My work has been supported by awards and funding, e.g. from the Royal Society of Edinburgh and the UK’s Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council.
Before joining the School of Mathematics, I was a Harrison Early Career Assistant Professor at the Department of Statistics, University of Warwick . I was a postdoctoral researcher in Machine Learning at the Computational and Biological Learning Laboratory, University of Cambridge working with Prof. Zoubin Ghahramani on Bayesian nonparametric clustering and feature allocation. In January 2013, I earned my PhD in Statistics from the Department of Decision Sciences, Bocconi University in Milan, working on Bayesian nonparametric regression with Prof. Sonia Petrone and Prof. Stephen Walker. I was awarded Best Doctoral Thesis in Statistics, Applied Statistics and Demography by the Italian Statistical Society and was Savage Award Finalist for Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation in Theory & Methods by the International Society of Bayesian Analysis (ISBA) and American Statistical Association (ASA).
I grew up in Maryland, USA and am the proud mother of four.
